Today’s Topic: In the Pits
Scripture: So it came to pass, when Joseph had come to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph of his tunic, the tunic of many colors that was on him. Then they took him and cast him into a pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it. Genesis 37:23–24, NKJV

When you’re in the pits, it’s tempting to have a pity party. “Why did this happen to me? How could this go so wrong?” You’re right where Joseph was, so hated by his brothers that they threw him in a pit to die. You did the right thing, but the wrong thing happened. You can either get sour and bitter, or you can do what he did and trust God in the pit.

We’re not going to understand everything God is doing. There are difficult times when a pit has been ordained by God. His plan for Joseph’s life was to rule the nation of Egypt. The pit was ordained to get him to Egypt and led to other difficult situations before he finally became prime minister. Sometimes life won’t make sense. In fact, He says, “My ways are not your ways.” You’re doing the right thing, but it hasn’t worked out. You have to trust that God is still in control, that He knows what He’s doing. He’s already planned the end from the beginning. This is what faith is all about.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that the pits I find myself in are only temporary stops along the way to my final destination. Thank You that I can offer You a sacrifice of praise because You hold victory in store for me. I believe that You’ll get me to where I’m supposed to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

TODAY’S INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE: God is ordering your steps. The people who are not supposed to be in your life cannot stay. Quit trying to win someone over who is not supposed to be there. God knows who will add value and move you further into your destiny. Trust God to bring the right people into your life. Six times in the Gospels, Jesus said, “He that has ears, let him hear what the Spirit is saying.” Everyone has ears. He wasn’t talking about physically; He was talking about your inner ears. He was saying, “Are you sensitive to the whisper?” Are you paying attention to what you’re feeling in your spirit? It’s easy to ignore it, push it down, don’t give it the time of day. But if you’ll start obeying the promptings, the suggestions, the gentle whispers, God will lead you down the best path for your life.
